Furniture trade fair stands

General view of the Doqu Home stand at imm cologne 2023 in Cologne: a 28 sqm custom timber build.

At a furniture fair the stand does not compete with the product, it carries it. The most common mistake in this sector is turning the stand into a strong design object: a coloured wall, an attention-seeking ceiling structure and showy materials get in front of the sofa you are trying to sell. The right approach is a neutral frame that shows the product as the buyer will see it at home or in the office. Lighting here is a commercial decision, not a technical one. Fabric and timber colour shift visibly with the colour temperature of the light; badly chosen lighting pushes the product into a tone it does not actually have and leaves the buyer disappointed on delivery. We choose colour temperature and the position of the light source according to the product group. Flooring is the most underrated item on a furniture stand. Carpet, timber decking or the bare hall floor change the price bracket the same product appears to belong to. Then there is floor level: a room set built on a platform shows the inside of the stand to someone looking from the aisle and puts the product on a stage. In return, a platform makes stepping onto the stand psychologically harder; which one to choose depends on the buyer you are after. Heavy pieces affect machine-in hours and floor loading capacity; for large furniture groups these are read out of the hall regulations and written into the schedule. Production is completed in our Istanbul workshop, the stand is fully assembled and checked before it ships, and our own crew installs.
